U14 Regional Selection – top form under scorching heat

With more than 100 girls and boys, one of the larger cohorts came to this year’s Regio Sichtung, which took place in Lausanne, Olten and Lucerne.

With temperatures around 35-degrees, the youngsters didn’t have it easy – and yet they all had to be at their best. It was the physical components of the sighting that demanded everything from the juniors in this heat. “Stay hydrated” and staying in the shade during breaks was the game-changer in these temperatures. The technical and tactical elements of the competition were also challenging, as the competition with the other U14 Regio aspirants was enormous.

“I actually feel a bit sorry for the boys and girls, giving their best in this heat … But at the international championships – such as the upcoming EuroHockey Championship II for men and women (in Portugal!) – they have to be able to give their all even in high temperatures.”

, said Punleuk Kam, who also lent a hand during the selection process as the new managing director.

Mathias Schaeben, Head of Young Talent, and his team will keep an eye on who ultimately makes it into the selection. The results of the selection process are expected by mid-August at the latest.
