Clubs want to grow. But more players—especially at the children’s and junior levels—also require more coaches who are capable of doing both: connecting with the children and juniors and offering engaging, high-quality training sessions. In many clubs, moms and dads who used to play hockey themselves step in to help, contributing their skills and knowledge from back in the day. Or older juniors (e.g., 14–18 coaches) apply the knowledge they’ve gained.

But our amateur coaches often reach their limits:

• What skills do we need to teach the children and juniors?
• How can we make training more structured?
• What exercises make it more exciting for the children and juniors and provide variety?

These and many other questions are sure to come up in the life of an amateur coach. And yes, you can take the J&S field hockey courses and earn further certifications. But with kids and a job on the side, these time-consuming J&S courses are hardly feasible.

This is where Swiss Hockey’s BMC program comes in:

• Short (max. ½ day), on-site or nearby—no overnight stay required.
• Practical (drills, drills, drills)
• Highly qualified: Led by professional coaches (coaches of the national and regional teams)
• Tailored to the target group of amateur coaches (no prior expert knowledge required)
• Immediately applicable (self-contained sessions) for your own training at the club.

“With the BMC, the association aims to support clubs in developing their mom, dad, and junior coaches—in a pragmatic, fun, yet highly professional way,” said Punleuk Kam, CEO of Swiss Hockey. “I’m particularly pleased that, in addition to our well-known coaches from the national and regional teams, we were able to bring on board Jair Levie—our men’s national team coach and head of competitive sports—for the BMC. This way, participants can truly learn from the best.”

The first BMC sessions will take place on the following dates:

• September: 12, 13, & 27 – all in Olten
• October: 21—in Zurich (Hardturm)
• November: 28 & 29 – both in Olten

Additional dates will follow. All sessions will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The cost per participant is 100 CHF per session. The minimum number of participants is 6.
