A life after the national team

What does Yves Morat do with 75% more vacation … if not play field hockey

Swiss Hockey: Yves, at the Final4 Carina and you were dismissed from the Nati. When did you play your first cap? How did it feel to sing the anthem in the national team jersey?

Yves Morard: My first game was in 2014 in Croatia at the World League. The feeling was very special and has been exactly the same every time I’ve played since then

Swiss Hockey: What was your toughest international match / tournament? Why?

Yves: I don’t think there was a special single game. The games against Poland, Russia, Ukraine etc. were always very physical and afterwards you had a lot of injuries. Or against Trinidad Tobago. This team focused its entire game on a single player and we still didn’t manage to neutralize him. That was very bitter but also impressive.

Swiss Hockey: Apart from the injuries, what will you miss about the national team? And what not so …?

Yves: I’ll miss the international matches and getting together with the other national team players and the staff. At tournaments, it was like being in a different world and being able to really switch off. I’ll miss the training sessions, courses and training requirements before the tournaments less. I’m also not mad that 75% of my vacations are no longer needed for hockey😉

Swiss Hockey: Many young players look up to the national team. For many, it’s a dream to be included in the national team. Do you have any tips for the U14 Regio players to get into the national team?

Yves: Accept every situation as it is. No matter what position or role. If you make yourself indispensable to a team, no matter what form you take, you will automatically progress. And above all, enjoy and value your time. It’s over sooner than you think.

Swiss Hockey: Indeed. The time has come for you. What are your plans off the field? Where can you be found when you’re not on vacation?

Yves: In Bernau or somewhere in Zurich on a building site

Swiss Hockey: Thank you Yves. Also for the great moments you gave us as fans on the field. We wish you all the best for the future and see you soon at Bernau.
