RWW women and HCO men secure the Swiss championship title at the Final4 in Lucerne
Rotweiss Wettingen crowned champion again – HC Olten again Vizemeister
In the semi-final, the ladies of Rotweiss Wettingen faced the Geneva-based Black Boys HC. After a dominant first phase, RWW took a deserved 3:0 lead before BBHC added two goals in the final quarter to bring the game back to life. However, the final whistle came too early for the French-speaking Swiss side – RWW advanced to the final with a 3:2 victory.
The second semi-final between HC Olten and Servette HC was a real thriller. The score was 1:1 after regulation time and the game had to be decided in a shoot-out. Ursina Fazis – later voted the best goalkeeper in the NLA women’s competition – emerged as the match winner, saving three of four shoot-outs to get her team into the final.
This meant that HC Olten and Rotweiss Wettingen met in the final for the third time in a row. Olten got off to a powerful start, but missed two early penalty corners. RWW made consistent use of their chances in return and went into the break with a 2:0 lead – thanks in part to a converted corner by Lisa Schnyder, who was later voted the best player in the NLA women’s competition.
After the break, HC Olten was initially unlucky to have a goal disallowed, but fought its way back into the game in the final quarter to close the gap to 2:1. Shortly afterwards, however, it was Lisa Schnyder again who made it 3:1 with her second penalty corner of the game – a decisive moment in the match. Olten put all their eggs in one basket and took their goalkeeper out, but Wettingen took advantage of the free space and scored on the counter-attack to make the final score 4:1 and secure the championship title.
The bronze medal went to the ladies from Servette HC.
Herren: HC Olten crowned champions against Lucerne
The first semi-final game between Rotweiss Wettingen and HC Olten was a real spectacle – with everything a top game needs. Olten took a 1:0 lead through Lorenz Gassner, who was later voted the best player in the NLA men’s competition. Before the break, Yves Morard equalized for RWW with a seven-meter penalty to make it 1:1.
After the break, it was Gassner again who put Olten back in front with his second goal. However, Wettingen quickly replied with a penalty corner goal to make it 2:2. Shortly before the end of the third period, HC Olten’s captain Nico Muggli put his team back in front – 3:2. In the final period, a lightning-quick counter-attack by RWW led to another penalty, which was converted to make it 3:3. HC Olten held its nerve in the subsequent shoot-out – Lorenz Gassner buried the decisive shot to secure a place in the final.
GC Zurich and hosts Luzerner SC faced off in the second semi-final. After a wait-and-see first quarter, GC had a few top-class chances, but these were defused by Timo Bütler, who went on to become the best goalkeeper in the NLA men’s competition. LSC turned the game around in the second quarter and scored two goals in succession. GC reduced the deficit to 2:1 before the break.
After the break, Lucerne quickly made it 3:1. GC tried everything in the final quarter, taking the goalkeeper out – but Lucerne made the most of this and scored two more goals to make the final score 5:1.
In the final game between HC Olten and Luzerner SC, the young talent Noa Peyer gave Olten a 1:0 lead with a precise backhand shot, which lasted until the half-time break. Lucerne equalized after the restart: Orell Küttel remained ice-cold after a counterattack and scored to make it 1:1.
In the third quarter, it was Lukas Hengartner – the NLA men’s top scorer – who gave Olten a 2:1 lead with a powerful penalty corner. In the final period, Lucerne pressed vehemently for the equalizer, earning a total of eight penalty corners, but were unable to convert any of them. Olten counter-attacked again in the final minutes – and scored into an empty net to make the final score 3:1.
HC Olten thus deservedly crowned themselves Swiss champions 2025 and secured their EHL ticket for the coming season.
The bronze medal in the men’s competition went to Rotweiss Wettingen.
