A successful Whitsun for the Swiss clubs
Two ascents and a spirited effort

Over the Whitsun weekend, the EuroHockey Trophy II for women took place in Alanya (Turkey) and for men in Rome (Italy). Switzerland was represented by three teams:
GC men, RWW women and HCO women
The blue and white Grasshoppers were able to achieve a “march through”: 3 clear victories in the preliminary rounds and the final against a strong team from Croatia meant victory in the tournament and promotion to the higher class.
The ladies from Rotweiss also left nothing to be desired in the group phase and secured group victory. Only in the final against Clydesdale (Scotland, reigning champions) did our Wettingen ladies have to admit defeat and win the silver medal. As the second-placed team, they also secured promotion to the first division.
Due to the absence of some experienced players, the women’s team from Olten had to compete with a much younger and thinner squad. Nevertheless, the team showed great fighting spirit and a great performance. However, three defeats (two of which were very close) in the preliminary round were not enough to put them right at the top.
In addition to these team performances, the Swiss were also able to shine with their individual performances: Elena Trösch (RWW) was named top scorer (on her birthday!), Flurina Steffen (RWW) and Philip Nitsch (GC) were named best goalie of the EuroHockey Trophy II.
The entire Swiss Hockey Community is proud of the successful promotions of GC and RWW as well as the valiant efforts of HCO. Swiss Hockey congratulates all players for this great achievement
