Swiss U21 indoor hockey team wins the European Championship!

The Swiss U21 indoor hockey team celebrated a great success last weekend. In a rousing atmosphere in Geneva, the team won the final of the European Indoor A Championship 6:3 against Austria to secure the title.

Tournament progress and decisive moments

The tournament began with a 7-4 win over Denmark, with the team scoring three goals in the last five minutes. Particularly noteworthy was the strong performance of one of the two captains, Yannick Hug, who scored four goals.

In the second game against Poland, the team narrowly won 3:2 thanks to a dramatic winning goal from Leonard Kraxner in the last ten seconds.

The final group match against Croatia ended 1:1, which was enough to advance to the semi-finals as group winners.

In the semi-final match against Italy, the team once again showed fighting spirit and narrowly won 4:3. Jonathan Baumbach (HTHC, Germany) was outstanding with three goals.

In the final, the team faced former European champions Austria and won 6:3. One of the two captains, Jens Flück, contributed two goals, while goalkeeper Timo Graf defended the goal with an outstanding performance.

A tournament full of emotion

The organization of the tournament by Servette HC in cooperation with the city of Geneva deserves special praise. The organization was excellent and there were many special moments off the pitch. One highlight was the 700 schoolchildren who filled the stands on Friday and created a fantastic atmosphere. Cheerleaders and freestyle acts also delighted the crowd during selected matches and contributed to the unique atmosphere of the tournament.

The atmosphere in Geneva was fantastic: an enthusiastic crowd, exciting matches and a team that performed with a lot of passion and team spirit. The team put in a strong performance from the very first minute and showed determination and enthusiasm in the final against Austria.
